The University of California, Santa Barbara, research group has been supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation since 1992. We explore a wide diversity of questions related to large scale patterns in marine ecosystems. Currently, we are examining such issues as: the processes setting species borders and how they change in response to shifting climate; the history of changes in biodiversity from local to global scales; the abundance and performance of individuals across species’ entire geographic range; and the design of large scale networks of marine protected areas.
