University of Canterbury
At the University of Canterbury, David Schiel’s Marine Ecology Research Group (MERG) has been supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation since 2000. Our research focuses on understanding processes that structure rocky intertidal communities around New Zealand for a range of spatial and temporal scales. This involves the integration of ecology, physical oceanography, micro-chemistry and molecular genetics. Funds by the Mellon Foundation have supported 4 graduate students (David Taylor, PhD; Robyn Dunmore, PhD in progress; Stacie Lilley, MS; and Sharyn Goldstein, PhD in progress) and 3 post-doctoral fellows (Gil Rilov, Janelle Reynolds-Fleming, Mike Hickford). Details on specific research projects can be found at the MERG website. |
