Activities
Here is a list of current and past ICORUMBA activities.
16 June - 10 August 04: Steve Gaines & family, Brian Kinlan, Sarah Lester, Carol Blanchette, Evie Wieters, Liz Madin, and Robin Pelc traveled to South Africa to study the influences of coastal topography on nearshore oceanography and biogeographic patterns of intertidal community structure, with an emphasis on geographic patterns of variation in reproductive allocation of intertidal invertebrates.
5-23 October 04: OSU PI Bruce Menge and students Anne Guerry, Laura Petes, and Roly Russell, and technician Matt Robart visit the Schiel lab in Christchurch, New Zealand to initiate a new experiment and monitor ongoing studies at their 9 study sites around the South Island.
2 December 04 - 30 January 05 and 2-16 March 05: OSU PI Bruce Menge and students Anne Guerry, Laura Petes, Joe Tyburczy and undergraduate intern visit the Schiel lab in Christchurch, New Zealand to carry out ongoing and new research projects.
22 March 05 - 09 April 05: OSU PI Bruce Menge visits PUC Pis Sergio Navarrete and Juan Carlos Castilla to see field sites, work on data analyses, brainstorm on ideas for research and paper collaborations, interact with students, and present seminars on Mellon-funded research. Sergio and Bruce also began work on the Agenda for the Mellon-funded workshop on Marine Ecosystems Dynamics to be held in Cape Town, SA (see below).
April - May 05: U of C PI Dave Schiel travels with student Stacey Lillie and postdoc Mike Hickford to visit UCSB colleagues to continue collaborations on larval fish transport. Their travels include visiting OSU to continue projects begun previously and to work on collaborative studies with OSU Pis Bruce Menge and Jane Lubchenco.
15 July 05 - 30 August 05: UCSB PI Steve Gaines travels to South Africa with a group of students to continue projects on biogeography begun in summer 2004. Additional sub-projects include studying variation in physiological performance, genetic structure, effects of marine protected areas, and benthic-pelagic coupling (larval dispersal and food availability).
23 July 05 - 30 August 05: OSU Pis Jane Lubchenco and Bruce Menge travel to South Africa to study rocky intertidal shores and attend the Mellon workshop (below).
27-29 August 05: UCT PI George Branch hosts the 3rd Mellon-funded workshop on the dynamics of Upwelling Ecosystems.
October 05: OSU PI Bruce Menge visits Schiel lab in Christchurch to initiate the 2005-06 program of field work in New Zealand, and to work on collaborations with U of C PI Dave Schiel.
1-15 December 05: OSU PI Bruce Menge visits PUC PI Sergio Navarrete to work on data analyses and manuscripts.
